La Liana Chaotica
Liana Chaotica is a kinetic, interactive sound object that hangs down from trees.
This rare species comes from the botanical family radix vibro, althought its appearance reminds some viewers of a jellyfish.
That‘s why even experts tend to confuse it with the pestilent medusa magica. In order to grow, liana chaotica produces its
energy not from photosynthesis but from motion: as soon as somebody shakes the trunk, its unique speech organ reacts
with the expression of peculiar sounds. liana chaotica is highly sensitive and therefore responds immediately – similar to
the mimosa – depending on the amplitude of the stimulus. If liana chaotica is not swinging, it falls into an energy-saving
numbness, audible as curious snore-like noises.

Technical details / anatomy / mounting:
Cliana‘s inner life consists of a two-axis-accelerometer that tracks
movement/acceleration induced by human influence
(swinging
and pulling the elastic rope). The movement data is transferred
to a computer that synthesizes liana
chaotica‘s voice,
accordingly. A speaker is mounted within the torso that points to the human actor on the ground.
The occurring sounds are directly linked to the evoking movements.
liana chaotica‘s elastic stem is fixed to the strong branch of a
high tree with climbing rope. A ground anchor is screwed
into
the terrain to fix the lower end properly. The textile costume of
liana chaotica is going to be redesigned in order
to make the basket invisible.
As a visual feature, a ring of LED‘s around the swinging body will
make watching the object‘s movement in the dark
more
attractive.
